From the sedate to the thrilling, there are myriad things to do on Goa ’s stunning sea shores and inland waterways…
Float downstream – River Cruising
To cruise the slow-moving waters of the Mandovi River is among the simplest and most satisfying experiences in Goa. Most tours add some traditional Goan dancing to the mix, but the views and perhaps a couple of ice cold Kingfishers are all you really need. The Goa Tourism & Development Association offers probably the most tranquil experience. Book your tickets through Incredible India Escapes.
Underwater Adventures – Scuba Diving
Miramar Beach in Panjim about 3 kilometres from Panaji, may not be the prettiest of beaches, but head here if scuba diving is your pleasure. You’ll discover a wide variety of hard corals and reef fish species and might be lucky enough to see a shark or a turtle too! The perfect way to acquaint yourself with Goa’s rich marine ecosystems and perhaps even get your dive certification.
Exploring & Exercise – Sea and River Kayaking
Newcomers to Goa will always make a beeline for the beaches, but Goa’s interior is a rich repository of flora and fauna dissected by rivers and backwaters. Kayaking and caoneing are both great ways to explore the interior – as well as getting some sea kayaking action along the coast. Head to Chicalim or Vasco Da Gama to book one of the daily kayaking excursions which take in the Mandovi, Zuari and Sal waterways as well as the Nerul River.
The need for speed – Jetskiing
If you’re looking for exhilaration on the water, then jet skiing is definitely the sport for you. Locally, they call it Water Scooter, which sounds a bit more sedate, but it’s exactly the same thing – 100-135 horsepower of pure fun. An easy learning curve and trained instructors mean that you’ll quickly find yourself carving up waves and before long you could even start catching some air.
Goa from Above – Parasailing
With its indigo seas and miles of white sand and palm trees, Goa’s coastline offers a stunning spectacle – especially when viewed from the air. Parasailing lets you take in the whole panorama from hundreds of feet in the air. The best time is just after monsoon when the air is especially clear.
