The spa industry is constantly striving to recreate authentic experiences that draw on the healing properties of the natural world. But when your location is a white sand beach lapped by the aquamarine waters of the Indian Ocean, the scent of frangipani heavy in the air, there’s no need to recreate – it’s all about dissolving the boundary between inside and outside. The result – the new sea-facing Ocean Spa at Karma Beach, Karma Kandara, Bali.
The Ocean Spa adapts the vernacular architecture of a traditional fishing hut: fishermen once stayed in this weathered wooden structure whilst harvesting fresh seaweed in the clear, clean waters just off Karma Beach.
Based on the traditional Balinese bale pavilion design, the Ocean spa & Yoga Bale features a cool interior giving onto a wooden verandah close to the ocean’s edge and boasting a castaway paradise panorama combining limestone rocks, bone white sand and the pellucid waters of Karma’s secret lagoon.
Whilst you enjoy Karma Spa rituals bestowed by our highly-trained bodyworkers, you’ll be lulled by cool breezes and the gently lapping waves of the Indian Ocean.
This soulful, authentic experience is reflected in Karma’s whole ethos when it comes to preparing wellness treatments and products: 80 percent of our spa products are made locally through partnerships with growers and farmers and we use organic ingredients wherever possible.
The Ocean Spa has been designed with simplicity in mind: A place to release and unwind from all the distractions of the modern world and to reconnect with nature at her most breathtaking. Treatments are inspired by the sea, combining sea salt harvested from Bali’s northeastern reaches with organic virgin coconut oils, volcanic sand and essential oils distilled from islands across the Indonesian archipelago.
There’s also the option to move, with private yoga sessions taught by leading practitioners. Best combined with a post-asana spa ritual or massage! From sunrise to sunset there’s something to suit everyone.
This looks amazing! Makes me want to go back to Bali immediately! But for now we are headed to the northern region of Italy to the Lindenhof Spa Hotel in South Tyrol. xoxo
