With Phat Phil Cooper about to take up residence behind the decks at Karma Beach Bali on Sunday October 22, we spent some time with him chatting about his globetrotting DJing career, his encounter with Sir Paul McCartney and the reason why he moved from the UK to Bali. <\/span><\/p>\n

Chatting with him you get a real feel as to why he\u2019s considered a music industry powerhouse with over two decades of experience performing in some of the biggest clubs around the world including Amnesia in Ibiza, Cream in Liverpool, and Ministry of Sound in London, Base in Sao Paulo and Shelter in Shanghai. .<\/span><\/p>\n

An avid collector of music, his passion and energy still abounds after 25 years in the business. \u00a0We look forward to sharing his passions when he steps behind the decks Karma Days on October 22.<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking back at your 25-year journey, from international DJing with super brands such as Ministry of Sound to your current time in Bali, what have been the highlights?<\/b><\/p>\n

I could mention so many\u2026 playing one of the first significant events on Gozo near Malta and the whole army being put out as the government was unsure how the party would go down! Playing huge warehouse parties in the USA, organizing parties on moving steam trains \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

You played Bestival Bali a few days ago – the inaugural Balinese version of the award-winning UK festival? What was it like?<\/b><\/p>\n

Bestival was fun. I know the team from back in the UK as I played for their UK events and once shared an office with most of the team. The crowd was huge and seemed to be up for it. A good sign and something to build on. <\/span><\/p>\n

You moved from the UK to Bali in recent year, why did you decide to base yourself on the other side of the world?<\/b><\/p>\n

Blue skies, great food and a wonderful lifestyle – I just love Asia. And Bali is just a spectacular place to play – surrounded by the blue waters and skies is amazing.<\/span><\/p>\n

I noticed you are a graduate from the Paul McCartney Fame school in Liverpool. <\/b><\/p>\n

Yeah \u2026 I went back to study as a mature student in my 30\u2019s and did a degree in Arts, Music and Entertainment management. <\/span><\/p>\n

And did you have an encounter with Sir Paul during those years? <\/b><\/p>\n

Yes, I met him at my graduation – he presented me with my degree. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you could be one of the Beatles who would you choose to be?<\/b><\/p>\n

I would be the mystery 5<\/span>th<\/span> Beatle! <\/span><\/p>\n

You were an integral part of the early house scene in the UK and around the world, from\u00a0playing\u00a0at many of the top parties and venues to promoting parties, managing artists and more, what are some of the most memorable experiences you\u2019ve had?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Up until now, I would say my most extraordinary experiences have been DJing in a moving train, putting a party on in an aquarium and being beaten up by a gang of midgets in a bar in Berlin!<\/span><\/p>\n

Is there anyone you\u2019d like to collaborate with and why?<\/b><\/p>\n

Jose Padilla for sure. <\/span><\/p>\n

And which are your favourites songs\/artists for 2017?<\/b><\/p>\n

A difficult question to answer. There are so many amazing artists but Private Agenda are up there, plus I just signed them to my label. <\/span><\/p>\n

You have several projects on the go at the moment, what should we be looking out for?<\/b><\/p>\n

Lots of amazing music on my NuNorthern Soul label and more DJ tours. <\/span><\/p>\n
