Classic English: The Art of Country Cuisine
at Mole & Badger

Karma Group‘s latest destination restaurant Mole & Badger opened at Karma Sanctum on the Green last month with a suitably grand opening attended by Karma Chairman John Spence, Sanctum’s CEO Mark Fuller and Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden.

Mole & Badger celebrates children’s classic The Wind in the Willows which was inspired by the bucolic Berkshire countryside surrounding Karma Sanctum on the Green. Author Kenneth Graham lived here as a child and returned in his later years, remembering an idyllic eden that he always strove to regain.

That eden also inspires the quintessentially English cuisine created by Michelin trained chef Johnny Prince. “It’s a pretty cool place to have a restaurant. We’re surrounded by the “Wild Wood – we have so many deer, wild animals, birds, herbs and wild flowers. Where possible I use locally foraged ingredients, particularly herbs.”

What’s a typical dish? “Roast rack of lamb, beautifully pink with loads of butter, thyme and garlic,” says Johnny. “Served with a beautiful broccoli puree, vibrant greens, some purple sprouting broccoli and a hot pot made form the lamb’s shoulder. I finish the dish with a natural lamb sauce made from roasting the bones of the lamb.”

Complemented by a well stocked wine emporium showcasing superlative old & new world vintages, Mole & Badger is a fitting tribute to the English countryside and its bounty.

Experience Mole & Badger in March & April and receive one of Johnny’s beautifully crafted desserts absolutely free!

Meet Ola Lirka: Karma‘s new Yoga Ambassador

Yoga is one of the mainstays of our approach to wellness at Karma so we’re excited to introduce our brilliant new Yoga Ambassador Ola Lirka who brings a wealth of experience across a range of modalities – and more importantly, an innate gift for teaching.

Mindful movement, dynamic breath work and deep down wellbeing: you might call these Ola Lirka’s yoga manifesto. Trained in a wide range of yoga styles, including classical Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Bikram, HIIT and Sky Yoga, Ola is a highly adaptive and sensitive teacher, whose classes are led as much by intuition as her in depth knowledge of asana and yoga philosophy. As she puts it, “Becoming flexible is not the goal; standing on your hands is not the goal; the goal is to create space where you were once stuck.”

Each class is different, but what connects them all is a seamless, flow based approach built around smooth transitions between poses. “For some it will be a dynamic class for others more of a restorative approach,” says Ola. “I offer a wide range of classes and workshops to suit all tastes and levels; expect hands on assist and detailed directions through the postures.”

As Karma’s Yoga Ambassador, Ola will be guiding classes, retreats and immersions across the Karma Group network and leading them herself in Bali. Check out our Karma Spa page for details of upcoming holistic yoga retreats and workshops with Ola at Karma Kandara, Jimbaran and Rottnest over the coming months. Ola also teaches regular classes for Karma members and guests.

Karma Luminaries

From sports stars to pop stars, actors to artists, yogis to DJs, the Karma Luminaries is a growing set of inspiring individuals, all of whom represent the key pillars of the Karma lifestyle in a different way.

Oscars night was huge for Queen drummer & multi-instrumentalist Roger Taylor as the acclaimed biopic of singer Freddie Mercury, Bohemian Rhapsody scooped four Oscars and a Best Picture nomination to boot. Taylor is a Karma Luminary, a close Karma Group friend and a regular at resorts like Karma Sanctum Soho in London.

He’s one of an expanding circle of inspirational figures that are friends & flag bearers for Karma. They include England Rugby stars who teach workshops for disadvantaged kids supported by Karma Group. Leading DJs like musical cognoscenti and veteran selector Groovemaster Hans Havenaar aka the Dutch Touch – a stalwart of the social scene in Mykonos and Bali and Jon Sa Trinxa, one of Ibiza’s seminal sunset magicians, both of whom regularly perform at hedonistic beachfront parties in Bali and at pop up Karma Beach locations in Australia and India. They are a reflection of the Karma lifestyle and its focus on first class entertainment, unique experiences and on giving something back to the communities where we work.

We have new luminaries continually joining the Karma family and we’ll be sharing their stories here in the Karma Chronicles over the coming editions.

India Through the lens truly is incredible

Seven resorts, four states, 31 days…Karma Global Brand Curator Clinton Albuquerque’s recent India adventure with Drone Heroes was a reminder of just how spectacular the subcontinent really is…

How do you really capture the magic of a destination without actually being there? That was the challenge that Clinton Albuquerque and the production team from Drone Heroes set themselves when they embarked on a month long journey to film all seven of Karma Group’s India resorts and the people & places that surround them.

A holiday is about moments. Experiences that put you right in the present. Unexpected encounters. Places that renew your sense of wonder at the world. Indulgence. The immersive films created by Drone Heroes bring together a medley of such moments mixing epic aerial footage with intimate shots that float through each destination from the viewer’s perspective.

From the expansive palm fringed beaches of Goa to Kerala’s inland waterways, the gilded palaces of Rajasthan and up to the Himalayan fastness of Dharamsala, home to Karma’s latest Indian property, Karma Exotica, this is India like you’ve never seen it before. Each destination offers a unique tapestry of locations and guest experiences – and our portfolio in India and beyond continues to grow.

Spring Sunshine & Winter Sports in Bavaria

Winter may be giving way to spring across many parts of Europe, but in the Bavarian Alps, the ski season extends until the 01 May. And Karma Bavaria is close to some world class Alpine slopes, including Germany’s tallest mountain – Zugspitze, where you are pretty much guaranteed snow through the season. There are gentle slopes for beginners and younger thrill seekers of course and things get seriously high octane on some of the steeper, longer runs. Wallburg is another great option – just 20 minutes from Karma Bavaria, it features the longest sledge run in Germany, at 6.5km! Mountains not high enough for you? Then why not try paragliding over the snowy Alpine peaks instead – a must try for all you adrenalin junkies out there!
